The Greater Harlem Coalition’s FOIL data requests to OASAS — New York State’s addiction licensing agency – reveal how central Mount Sinai’s methadone programs at Park/125 are for the greater New York City region.
The red lines in the map, below, visualize patients’ daily commute to Mount Sinai’s methadone hub in East Harlem. Many of the patients are forced to travel for hours each day to access treatment.
The Greater Harlem Coalition is fighting for small-scale, effective, and wrap-around drug treatment programs in all New York (state and city) neighborhoods precisely to end this wasteful practice of sending patients across the state to Harlem for care. Every hour spent commuting is time these patients could be spent taking their children to school, getting to work, attending classes, etc.
All New York neighborhoods need to have local programs serving their neighbors in need.
